LANGUAGE AND CULTURE


 

In language there are categories used to describe a kinds of phenomena, those called culture and thought. Culture refer to properties of a community, specially those which  distinguish it from  others. From dimensions of culture there are three basic dimensions such as : 

1. The cognitive dimension, people has shared culture knowledge  by members of group.  It includes the assumption and beliefs societies make a reality, the nature of the world and how it works. 

2. The affective  dimensions with reflected the culture in most areas of life with what people have to in our feelings. 

3. The evaluative dimension has to with values, it uses to judge in all types situations in there types are evaluates cognitive beliefs to determine their feelings, judges the emotional expression of human life and the values and determines in society right and wrong.

Thought covers a number of different types of mental activity and lies in domain of cognitive psychologist. The relation between thought and culture based on culture as socially acquired knowledge and it is on of a part of memory. Some parts of language are culture knowledge, since they have to be learned from others.

There are four points at which language makes contact with knowledge :

a.       Linguistic items are concepts and categories  we use to analyze our experience.

b.      Meanings are concepts. It is considerable controversy over the definition of meaning but widespread agreement of a linguistic is sense, what is permanent about relation to the world.

c.       Linguistically relevant social categories are concepts. People have particular concepts a typical speaker of typical situation.

d.      Sentence meaning are propositions, because linguistic are stored in memory have concepts as their meaning. The sentences formed by combining linguistic express propositions.

As for the relation between language and culture, most language in contained within culture. So it would not be far from the truth to say  a society’s language is an  aspect of its culture.

Tips menghadapi Ulangan dengan baik ^^

                “ Baiklah, itu materi untuk pembahasan hari ini dan bersiap untuk ulangan minggu depan!!” hmm...ada yang selalu dapat kalimat wejangan ini di sekolah?? Hahaha...Ulangan, waktu yang selalu menghantui dengan suasana mencekamnya yang sunyi, dua lembar kertas penentu nasib, suata ketukan pulpen di meja untuk menghilangkan rasa pusing, helaan nafas berat nan panjang ketika otak takmampu menemukan jawaban lagi serta lirik-lirikan manis di sertai bisikan lembut.     Language , in the sense of knowledge of linguistics items and their meanings, the balance is in favor of the social, since people learn their language   by listening to others.   At the same time, each individual’s language is unique, since no two people have the same experience of language. Another thing which will become apparent is that the distinction between ‘language’ and ‘social constraints on speech’ is anything but clear, since may of the constraints discussed below   refer to specific linguistic items and could therefore be treated as a part of language, allow with what people know about meanings. Speech is not an automatic reflex . It is work, since it requires effort and its degree of success depends on the effort that is made. It is skilled on that requires the ‘ know-how’ type of knowledge, which I applied more or less successfully according to how much practice one has had.
